Mushroom Farming Turns Into a Success Story for Two Brothers in Dharmanagar, Inspiring Local Youth

Date:

Agartala, 31ST May 2026:   In an inspiring example of self-employment and rural entrepreneurship, two brothers from Kalachhara under Dharmanagar subdivision have built a successful livelihood through mushroom cultivation, setting aside the traditional race for government jobs.

Nilotpal Sinha and his brother Gautam Sinha, residents of South Huruwa Ward No. 1, began their journey in mushroom farming in 2013 out of personal interest. What started as a small-scale experiment gradually developed into a well-organized and profitable business through consistent effort, learning, and determination.

Over the years, their venture has expanded into a fully functional mushroom production unit equipped with its own laboratory. The facility manages the complete process, including spawn production, cultivation, and marketing. They primarily cultivate oyster and milky mushrooms, adjusting production based on seasonal conditions and market demand.

Today, their enterprise generates an estimated annual income of ₹4–5 lakh, helping them maintain a stable and self-sufficient livelihood. Their efforts have also received support under the MIDH (Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture) scheme, through which they were granted financial assistance of ₹1 lakh from the horticulture department.

Speaking about their journey, Nilotpal Sinha encouraged young people to look beyond government job opportunities, which he noted are becoming increasingly limited. He highlighted mushroom farming as a low-investment, high-return agricultural business with strong demand, particularly in Tripura and nearby regions where production is still insufficient compared to market needs.

Their success has gained attention in the local community, becoming a motivating example for unemployed youth in the region. The Sinha brothers’ story now stands as a symbol of rural entrepreneurship, showing how dedication and innovation can turn a modest idea into a sustainable source of income.
