Agartala, 3rd June 2026: The Khowai District Committee of the All Tripura MGNREGA Welfare Association on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Khowai, demanding regularization of services and other employment benefits for MGNREGA workers serving across the state.
According to the memorandum, the employees have been working under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) since 2007 and have played a significant role in the successful implementation of the scheme throughout Tripura. Despite rendering nearly 18 years of service with dedication and responsibility, they continue to work on a contractual basis without job security and several benefits enjoyed by regular government employees.
The association alleged that MGNREGA employees have been facing multiple hardships, including delays in salary disbursement. They claimed that remuneration has not been received since April 2026, causing financial difficulties for workers and their families. The memorandum also highlighted that the existing salary structure is inadequate in view of the rising cost of living and inflation.
The employees further pointed out that they are not entitled to Dearness Allowance (DA) and that their remuneration is not revised periodically in line with prevailing economic conditions. The association also raised concerns over disparities in pay among employees performing the same duties under the same post, stating that remuneration structures revised on the basis of educational qualifications have resulted in unequal pay for equal work.
Seeking administrative intervention, the association submitted a charter of demands that includes regularization of all MGNREGA (VB-GRAM-G) employees from their respective dates of joining, revision and enhancement of the salary structure with integration into Panchayat Department-sponsored schemes, and an increase in the annual increment from 3 percent to 5 percent.
The association urged the administration to take immediate steps to address their longstanding grievances and ensure employment security and fair service benefits for MGNREGA workers.
