Agartala, 27th August 2026 : The issue of financial assistance for Manashree Chowdhury, a Tripura girl suffering from a rare and complex disease, was raised in the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Thursday, with Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman urging the state government and people to come forward to support her treatment.
Speaking on the first day of the Monsoon Session, Roy Barman said that Manashree had already received assistance from several people across the state, including around 12 MLAs and ministers. However, more than Rs 4 crore is still required for her treatment, which, according to him, needs to be arranged within a week.
“This is the fight of our people and an example of humanity,” Roy Barman said, appealing to people across caste and creed to extend their support. He also urged the government to consider providing the remaining amount required for the treatment.
Roy Barman suggested that the state government could also approach the PM CARES Fund, pointing out that a substantial amount remains unspent. Expressing confidence in Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, he hoped that the government would take immediate steps to help the young patient.
Responding to the issue, Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha described it as a “very humanitarian issue” and assured the Assembly that necessary assistance would be considered after discussions with all concerned.
The Chief Minister said that many individuals and organisations had already extended help, directly or indirectly, towards Manashree’s treatment. However, given the extremely high cost involved, he said he had personally taken up the matter with the central government.
Dr. Saha said the Union Health Minister had also been informed about the case and that discussions had been held with the Tata Group regarding possible financial assistance. He added that he had personally spoken to several people seeking support for Manashree’s treatment.
“This is a very humane issue,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the government would again discuss the matter and take necessary measures to ensure possible assistance for her treatment.
