Agartala, 5th June 2026: In a striking example of community initiative, residents of 21 Nalchar West Durlav Narayan 5th Ward have begun repairing a long-neglected road using their own funds.
According to local sources, the road was originally constructed with brick soling during the previous Left Front government. However, after the current BJP-led administration came to power, locals allege that despite multiple deputations submitted to the panchayat over the past eight years, no concrete steps were taken to repair or upgrade the road.
Frustrated by the lack of response from elected representatives and administrative officials, around 50 families in the area collectively raised funds to begin repair work on their own. The initiative has also received support from a local Left youth organization, identified as the DYFI Durlav Narayan Regional Committee.
Residents told reporters that repeated complaints failed to bring any improvement to the condition of the road, which has become increasingly difficult to use. The poor condition of the stretch has reportedly caused serious inconvenience, especially for pregnant women and elderly patients who require emergency transportation.
With official intervention still absent, the community decided to take matters into their own hands and start repairing the road themselves. Locals say the effort is driven by necessity rather than choice, as the deteriorating infrastructure continues to disrupt daily life in the area.
