Cancer patients face hardship as treatment services disrupted at Regional Cancer Centre

Date:

Agartala, 8th  June 2026:   Serious concerns have emerged over the functioning of Tripura’s Regional Cancer Centre, with family members of patients alleging that critical cancer treatment services have remained disrupted for nearly two weeks following the breakdown of an essential treatment machine.

According to relatives of patients undergoing treatment at the hospital, chemotherapy and radiation-related services have been severely affected over the past 10 to 12 days, leaving many cancer patients without scheduled treatment. The disruption has reportedly caused immense hardship for patients, particularly elderly individuals and those in advanced stages of cancer.

A family member of an elderly cancer patient from Gomati district, speaking on condition of anonymity, alleged that his grandmother has been suffering severe pain as treatment procedures have remained suspended. He claimed that the machine used for providing crucial cancer therapy became non-functional nearly two weeks ago and has yet to be repaired.

“The patients are suffering immensely. We have approached the concerned authorities, but we have been told that treatment cannot resume until the machine is repaired,” he said.

The attendant further alleged that medical staff have been limited to providing pain-relief medicines and other basic medication to patients while awaiting restoration of the facility. He expressed concern over the delay in repairing the equipment and urged authorities to intervene immediately.

Several patient attendants have reportedly voiced similar concerns, claiming that a large number of cancer patients are awaiting treatment and are facing uncertainty regarding their recovery prospects.

The allegations have sparked concern among patients’ families, who are demanding urgent action from the Health Department to restore the affected services. They have appealed to the state government and hospital administration to ensure that the faulty equipment is repaired or alternative arrangements are made without delay so that cancer patients do not continue to suffer due to interruptions in treatment.

Hospital authorities were not immediately available for comment on the allegations.
