Agartala, 8th June 2026: Personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) 97 Battalion apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals and an Indian citizen while they were allegedly attempting to cross the India–Bangladesh border illegally. The arrests were made on Sunday in the Bajendranagar area under Kadamtala Police Station. The detainees were later handed over to Kadamtala Police for further legal action.
According to police sources, troops of the ‘C’ Company of BSF’s 97 Battalion, under the Ranibari Border Outpost (BOP), intercepted four individuals near the border fencing during a routine patrol in Bajendranagar. A case (No. 29/26) has been registered at Kadamtala Police Station under Sections 21 and 23(A) of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. The accused were produced before the Dharmanagar District Court on Monday.
The three Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Liton Mia (37) from Sreemangal district, and Sabuj Mia (25) and Sayel Mia (30) from Moulvibazar district in Bangladesh. The Indian national has been identified as Manik Roy (42), a resident of North Dhanichhara village under Pecharthal Police Station in Unakoti district. He works as an auto-rickshaw driver.
During preliminary interrogation, the detainees reportedly told police that they had entered India illegally around three to four months ago through the Asharambari and Bajendranagar border areas in Khowai district. Since then, they had been engaged in a fish fingerling business in the Pecharthal area.
Police said the three Bangladeshi nationals were planning to return to Bangladesh and had allegedly contacted local human trafficker Sushil Das and his son Sanjay Das for assistance. The duo reportedly agreed to facilitate their illegal border crossing in exchange for ₹3,000.
As per the arrangement, the four travelled to Bajendranagar on Sunday in an auto-rickshaw (TR02C3669) driven by Manik Roy. Under the pretext of transporting fish, they reached the border area and were allegedly preparing to cross into Bangladesh with the help of the traffickers when BSF personnel caught them red-handed. Manik Roy was also taken into custody for his alleged involvement.
Kadamtala Police have launched an investigation into the case and are conducting raids to trace the absconding accused, Sushil Das and Sanjay Das. The incident has created considerable attention in the locality.
