Agartala, 9th June 2026: Expressing serious concern over the growing incidence of drug abuse among youths in Banamalipur, the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) on Tuesday submitted a formal complaint to the East Agartala Women’s Police Station, seeking an immediate investigation and stringent action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.
In its petition, AIDWA highlighted the alarming spread of substance abuse in the locality and urged authorities to take urgent steps to curb the menace. The organization called for strict law enforcement measures, rehabilitation support for affected individuals, and awareness campaigns to prevent young people from falling prey to addiction.
AIDWA leaders claimed that they have gathered eyewitness testimonies and evidence indicating that unauthorized sellers and drug dealers are allegedly operating in areas close to educational institutions. “Our children are at risk. We cannot wait for more lives to be destroyed,” an AIDWA regional coordinator stated while appealing to the administration for swift intervention.
The organization has demanded immediate raids in suspected hotspots, increased police patrolling, and the formation of a dedicated task force to dismantle drug supply networks operating in the area.
The initiative has received support from local residents, particularly parents, who reported a rise in absenteeism from schools and noticeable behavioral changes among teenagers. Health professionals also stressed the importance of combining enforcement measures with preventive education, counseling services, and accessible de-addiction facilities.
Police officials confirmed that the complaint has been received and said the evidence submitted would be examined before further action is taken. AIDWA has also urged the district administration to coordinate with schools, healthcare institutions, and civil society organizations to launch a comprehensive anti-drug campaign. The organization pledged to continue monitoring the situation and extending support to families affected by addiction as the matter progresses.
