Health dept delegation inspects Agartala Civil Hospital ahead of operational launch

Date:

Agartala, 18th June 2026:   With the objective of strengthening healthcare facilities in the state, a high-level delegation led by the Director of Health Services, Dr. Debashree Debbarma, inspected the upcoming 50-bed Urban Community Health Centre, popularly known as Agartala Civil Hospital, on Wednesday.

The initiative is being undertaken as part of the state government’s efforts, under the leadership of Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, to improve healthcare infrastructure and ensure better medical services for citizens. The government has been focusing on expanding accessible healthcare facilities across the state.

During the inspection, Dr. Debashree Debbarma reviewed the preparations for making the hospital operational and assessed the proposed healthcare services to be provided at the facility. The roadmap for introducing services including the Outpatient Department (OPD), General Medicine, Obstetrics, and Dentistry was also discussed in detail.

The Agartala Municipal Corporation will manage the functioning of the hospital after its inauguration. Located in the heart of Agartala city, the facility is expected to provide convenient healthcare access to residents, business communities, workers, and people from nearby suburban areas.

Officials said the new health centre will also help reduce the pressure on IGM Hospital, the state’s major referral healthcare facility situated in central Agartala, by providing essential medical services closer to people’s doorsteps.

The visiting delegation inspected several key sections of the hospital, including the OPD, Inpatient Department (IPD), emergency services, wards, and medical store. The officials stressed the need for ensuring smooth operations and uninterrupted healthcare services once the facility becomes functional.

Accompanying the Director of Health Services during the inspection were Dr. Rajesh Anil Acharya, Head of Office and Deputy Director of Health Services; Dr. Shalu Rai, Principal of Agartala Government Dental College and IGM Hospital; Dr. Puja Debnath, Associate Professor, along with other senior health officials.

The inspection marks a significant step towards the early operationalization of Agartala Civil Hospital and strengthening urban healthcare services in the state.
