Tripura CPI(M) targets corruption with mass agitations in July; Civil Disobedience Movement on August 10

Date:

Agartala, 19th June 2026:  The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has unveiled a statewide agitation plan beginning in early July, culminating in a civil disobedience movement on August 10. The decision followed a two-day State Committee meeting in Agartala.

At a press briefing, CPI(M) State Secretary and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury said the party had reviewed recent electoral outcomes, including the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections, village committee polls, and the Dharmanagar by-election. He accused the ruling alliance of exploiting divisive politics to strengthen its hold in tribal regions and pledged to intensify campaigns against corruption, misgovernance, and economic distress.

Chaudhury highlighted widespread unemployment and alleged that government critics are often denied work. As part of its agitation roadmap, CPI(M) will stage mass deputations to District Magistrates, Block Development Offices, and ADC zonal offices in July, demanding action on corruption and joblessness. The civil disobedience programme on August 10 will target the Centre’s labour codes.

CPI(M) General Secretary M. A. Baby also criticised the BJP-led government, claiming unemployment has surged over the past 12 years and that many promises remain unfulfilled. He said the party is strengthening its organisation ahead of elections expected in about 19 months.
