Agartala flat blast: Mayor Dipak Majumder orders probe into safety measures after massive explosion

Date:

Agartala, 25th June 2026:   A massive explosion inside a flat being used as an office created panic among residents after neighbouring flats and houses were also damaged. Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder on Thursday visited the spot and assured a detailed investigation to identify the cause of the blast.

Describing the incident as a “horrific scene”, Majumder said, “We received information about the explosion in this flat, which was being used as an office. At present, no one can confirm the exact reason behind the blast. The forensic team will investigate and submit a report.”

He said the impact of the explosion was severe, affecting nearby residential areas. “Residents are in panic. Doors and windows of neighbouring flats and houses were damaged. The intensity of the blast was very high, and the actual cause will be known only after the investigation,” he added.

Majumder informed that a youth named Shamsuzzoha, who was working inside the premises, sustained serious burn injuries and is undergoing treatment at DM Hospital. “Eyewitnesses informed that he suffered severe burns due to the explosion,” he said.

The AMC Mayor stated that Chief Minister Manik Saha has been informed about the incident and the government is monitoring the situation. He assured that steps would be taken to support affected residents and restore confidence.

Highlighting the importance of building safety, Majumder said AMC officials, engineers and the Commissioner would examine whether proper safety arrangements exist in flats and buildings. “This incident could have turned into a much bigger disaster. We will check whether emergency systems are working properly,” he said.

Regarding the failure of the water safety system, he said the blast had damaged the water line. “We will investigate why the safety mechanism did not function,” he added, assuring a review of safety measures in other buildings as well.
