Agartala, 28th June 2026: Continuous power outages have severely affected the telephone services at the Bishramganj Fire Station, leaving firefighters unable to communicate effectively during emergencies, officials and staff have alleged.
According to fire service personnel, the landline system becomes non-functional whenever there is no electricity, making it impossible for them to receive or respond to emergency calls. Despite repeatedly informing higher authorities and telecom department officials about the issue, no permanent solution has been implemented so far, they claimed.
The situation came under sharp focus on Sunday following a major accident in Bishramganj, where fire personnel were engaged in rescue operations for the injured. During the operation, firefighters reportedly faced verbal abuse from members of the public as well as traffic police personnel, adding to the pressure of an already critical situation.
“We are ready to serve people 24 hours a day, but due to the failure of telephone services, we often face public anger and even abusive language,” fire service personnel said. They further added that some individuals used offensive and inappropriate language against them during the rescue operation.
Expressing helplessness, the firefighters urged authorities and the government to urgently restore reliable electricity and telephone connectivity at the station. They warned that in the event of a major disaster, communication failures could lead to delayed responses and serious consequences.
The incident has raised concerns about emergency preparedness and infrastructure reliability in the region, with calls for immediate corrective action.
