Congress gives deputation to SC & OBC Corporations; Demands filling of 52,000 vacant posts

Date:

Agartala, 29th June 2026:  The Tripura Pradesh Congress OBC Department and SC Department on Monday organized a protest demonstration and submitted a deputation to the SC and OBC Corporation at Lake Chowmuhani in Agartala, alleging that Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (OBC) communities have been deprived of their constitutional rights and welfare benefits during the BJP-led government’s tenure.

Addressing the gathering, leaders of the Congress OBC and SC wings alleged that the state’s marginalized communities have been “oppressed and exhausted” over the past seven years. They claimed that students from SC, ST and OBC communities are not receiving stipends on time, MGNREGA workers have not received the promised wage of Rs 340 or 200 days of employment, irregular employees remain unregularized, and the issue of reinstating the 10,323 terminated employees remains unresolved.

The leaders said the protest was based on an 11-point charter of demands, including immediate filling of nearly 52,000 vacant government posts, regular disbursement of student stipends, old-age pensions and allowances for leather artisans. “If the government fails to accept our demands, we will be compelled to launch a larger movement in the coming days,” they warned.

The Congress leaders also alleged large-scale irregularities in the functioning of the SC and OBC Corporations, claiming that loan schemes meant for students, small traders, farmers and economically weaker sections have become a “reign of loot” instead of serving beneficiaries. They demanded a thorough investigation into the functioning of the corporations, enhancement of loan amounts and proper implementation of welfare schemes.

The deputation also urged the state government to pass a Bill providing reservation for OBCs in political, economic and employment sectors and to support a nationwide caste census, asserting that welfare and reservation policies should be based on the actual population of different communities.
