Agartala, 1st July 2026: Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has strongly criticized the state government’s recent decisions, warning that they are pushing both the healthcare and education sectors into disarray.
Speaking on the closure of doctors’ private practice chambers at GBP Hospital, Sarkar said: “The government needs to reconsider its decision. This move was taken without assessing the actual state of healthcare services. An abnormal situation has arisen at GBP and IGM hospitals, where patients wait for hours at ticket counters and face immense anxiety about access to doctors. While the government has the right to make decisions, shutting down private practice outside duty hours must be reviewed. Decisions should be made in consultation and harmony with those involved.”
On the resignation of an Inspector of Schools (IS) following alleged humiliation by a District Magistrate, Sarkar condemned the incident as an abuse of authority. He remarked: “The District Magistrate insulted a lady officer during a school inspection, prioritizing arrogance over responsibility. This is unimaginable. At a time when there is already an acute shortage of teachers, such behavior only worsens the crisis.”
Sarkar further expressed concern over the state’s law and order situation, alleging that murders, thefts, and robberies are occurring unchecked—even near police stations. He accused the police of attempting to dismiss serious crimes as suicides, saying: “Law and order was buried long ago. The police are spinning tales instead of ensuring justice.”
The former Chief Minister concluded that the government’s actions reflect an attempt to ruin both the education and health sectors, while public safety continues to deteriorate.
