Rs 14.55 Crore Tender Scam Alleged in Tripura: IAS Officer Among Three Booked

Date:

Agartala, 3rd July 2026: An FIR has been filed at the New Capital Complex Police Station in Agartala over an alleged multi-crore fraud linked to fake government tender contracts in Tripura.

A business firm based in Nagpur has accused IAS officer Abhishek Chandra and three others—Utpal Chandra, Sudip Pal, and Krishna Chakraborty—of orchestrating a conspiracy to cheat them by promising access to government supply contracts under the Directorate of Higher Education, Tripura. As per the complaint lodged on July 1, the accused allegedly represented themselves as individuals with influence over tender approvals and government procurement processes. On this basis, the firm reportedly entered into a joint venture agreement in September 2024 for participation in purported supply contracts.

Between September 2024 and February 2025, the firm claims it transferred around ₹14.55 crore in multiple instalments as earnest money and related payments, believing the deals were genuine. The complaint further states that supporting documents, work orders, and digital communications were used to maintain the appearance of authenticity.

It has also been alleged that certain amounts were later reurned to the firm, described as refunds or profit-sharing, which initially reinforced their trust in the arrangement. However, during a verification process in April 2025, the firm discovered that no such tenders had been issued by the concerned department and that the documents provided were allegedly fabricated.

Following this discovery, the complainant has alleged that the accused stopped responding to calls and communications, and key individuals involved in handling payments became unreachable.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including cheating, forgery, criminal breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy. The investigation is currently at an early stage, and authorities are verifying the allegations.
