Midnight murder attempt at Fatikroy, accused absconding

Date:

Agartala, 3rd July 2026:   A shocking incident of attempted murder has rocked Unakoti district’s Fatikroy assembly constituency, where a man was brutally attacked with a sharp weapon in the dead of night.

Reportedly, Pradip Das of Saydarpur Ward No. 1 was assaulted around 1 AM on June 30. The accused, identified as Shiprendu Das, allegedly lay in wait near Pradip’s cowshed and attacked him with a sharp dao as he returned from the toilet. Severely injured, Pradip collapsed on the ground, bleeding profusely. His cries alerted family members, who rushed to the spot, while the assailant fled, abandoning the weapon.

Pradip was first taken to Fatikroy Sub-Divisional Hospital and later shifted to Unakoti District Hospital in critical condition. Doctors confirmed deep injuries to his neck, back, and chest, requiring nearly 20 stitches. His treatment is ongoing.

Family sources claim the attack stemmed from a political quarrel between Shiprendu and Pradip’s younger brother, Narad Das, earlier that evening. Pradip’s wife, Gitanjali Biswas (Das), lodged a written complaint at Fatikroy Police Station, alleging old enmity and demanding immediate arrest of the accused.

Police have seized the weapon and launched an investigation, but as of reporting, Shiprendu remains absconding. The delay in arrest has fueled anger and anxiety among locals, who fear for their safety.
