Agartala, 5th July 2026: A serious criminal incident yesterday night has triggered panic in the Murabari locality of Bishalgarh, where a group of armed miscreants allegedly intercepted a vehicle, assaulted passengers, and abducted a driver before fleeing into a nearby forest area.
According to reports, the incident occurred between approximately 2:00 AM and 2:30 AM when a Scorpio vehicle carrying members of a family from the Boxanagar Asahbari area was returning home after attending to an urgent family matter. The vehicle was reportedly chased by a Bolero and several motorbikes carrying unidentified individuals.
Witnesses said that when the Scorpio driver, identified as Dulal Mia, attempted to speed away, the attackers surrounded the vehicle. The assailants allegedly held a knife to the driver’s throat and pointed a firearm at the passengers, including three women and a child, before forcing them into a nearby forest.
Inside the forest, the victims were reportedly assaulted, and mobile phones, cash, and gold ornaments were looted. While the women and the child were later released, the driver was allegedly abducted and taken away by the attackers.
The released victims managed to hide inside the forest overnight and emerged the following morning, discovering that their vehicle had been severely damaged. They then sought help from local residents, who informed the Bishalgarh police.
Police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Acting on leads, officers detained two young men, identified as Payel Alam and Juel Mia, from the Raghunathpur railway station area. Two vehicles, bearing registration numbers TR 07 F 0468 and TR 02 D 1770, have also been seized in connection with the case.
A police investigation is currently underway to trace the abducted driver and identify other individuals involved in the incident. Authorities have stated that further details will emerge as the inquiry progresses.
