Agartala, 6th July 2026: Residents of Bhanu Para area have reported ongoing distress over repeated rubber theft incidents, which have allegedly created an atmosphere of insecurity in the locality. According to local accounts, the situation escalated when villagers organized night patrols after police attention was perceived as insufficient.
During one such night vigil, locals reportedly caught a drug-using individual involved in rubber theft and handed him over to the Chelagang police station. Based on information obtained during the incident, names of other individuals allegedly involved in theft and drug distribution also came to light.
Subsequently, the following morning, residents detained two more suspects linked to the same network and brought them to the Newbazar police station. Local people are demanding strict legal action not only against the thieves but also against buyers involved in purchasing stolen rubber, urging authorities to bring all involved parties under the law.
The situation has created tension around the Newbazar police station area as investigations continue. Authorities are yet to confirm further action, and it remains to be seen how both Chelagang and Newbazar police handle the case and whether those involved will be formally charged under the law.
