Locals Recover Stolen Motorcycle, Raising Questions Over Intelligence Failure

Date:

Agartala, 6th July 2026:  A stolen motorcycle was recovered through the vigilance of local residents, highlighting concerns over the alleged failure of the intelligence wing in the Madhupur police jurisdiction. The incident took place in the Kaiyadepa border area under Madhupur Police Station.

According to reports, the motorcycle, a Hero Honda Glamour (registration number TR01AF9013), belonged to Rakesh Debnath, son of Rabindra Debnath of Jirania. The bike was stolen from the family’s residence around 2:00 a.m. on June 28 while a religious ceremony was underway. A worker had parked the motorcycle on the veranda before leaving, and it was allegedly stolen during the night. A written complaint was later filed at Jirania Police Station.

Eight days after the theft, residents of Kaiyadepa reportedly discovered the abandoned motorcycle in a dense forest near the border and informed Madhupur Police. After verifying the vehicle’s registration details, police contacted the owner, who collected the motorcycle from the police station on Monday and expressed happiness at recovering it.

The incident has sparked criticism from local residents, who allege that intelligence personnel have repeatedly failed to curb theft, cattle smuggling, illegal cross-border activities, and other crimes in the border region. Many residents are demanding stronger surveillance and more effective policing to prevent future criminal activities and improve security along the sensitive border area.
