Agartala, 9th July 2026: Fear and insecurity have once again gripped Agartala residents after a fresh chain-snatching incident early Tuesday morning. Two bike-borne miscreants targeted Nita Bhowmik while she was walking from Bank Chowmuhani toward Panchamukh and fled with her gold necklace weighing around four bhoris.
The crime occurred under Amtali Police Station jurisdiction and was captured on nearby CCTV footage. Police have registered a case and launched raids to nab the culprits.
Local women expressed deep concern over the rising menace, urging authorities to intensify patrolling and install CCTV cameras at key junctions. Residents say the boldness of such criminals, striking even during morning walks, has left the community living in constant anxiety.
Authorities assured that investigations are underway and arrests are expected soon.
