Relentless monsoon rains swell Kakri River, Dharmanagar College road residents fear looming flood disaster

Date:

Agartala, 9th July 2026:  Continuous monsoon rains have turned the Kakri River into a turbulent force, sparking fears of flooding in the College Road area of Dharmanagar.

Over the past few days, relentless downpours have caused the river’s water level to rise dangerously close to the danger mark. Viral visuals circulating on social media show the river’s muddy, fast-flowing currents, which have left residents living along its banks deeply alarmed.

Local families fear that if the situation worsens, inundation could severely disrupt daily life. Residents point out that the lack of proper river maintenance and drainage systems leads to recurring flood-like conditions every monsoon. They warn that if College Road — a vital and densely populated route — is submerged, transportation and public movement will collapse entirely.

The community has urged authorities to take immediate preventive measures to safeguard lives and property before the situation escalates further.
