36 surgeries in two-day camp at GBP Hospital

Date:

Agartala, 11th July 2026:   A two-day special surgical camp at GBP Hospital, organized under the initiative and guidance of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, successfully completed 36 surgeries, offering timely relief to patients who had been awaiting operations for months.

The camp, held on July 10–11, was jointly organized by the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), Tripura State Chapter, the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA), Tripura State Chapter, and the Departments of General Surgery and Anaesthesiology of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital.

On the first day, 29 surgeries were performed out of 35 scheduled cases, while seven more were successfully conducted on the second day. The procedures included laparoscopic and open cholecystectomy, breast surgery, treatment of pilonidal sinus, lipoma removal, and intestinal perforation repair, among other complex operations.

The initiative was aimed at reducing the backlog of pending surgeries at the state’s only tertiary-level government hospital, which faces mounting patient pressure. By conducting this camp, many patients received surgical care ahead of schedule, ensuring faster treatment and recovery.

Hospital authorities credited the success to the coordinated efforts of the heads of the Surgery and Anaesthesiology departments, doctors, nursing officers, OT technologists, support staff, and all healthcare workers involved.

According to a press release issued by the Medical Superintendent of AGMC & GBP Hospital, similar special surgical camps will be organized regularly in the future to further reduce waiting lists and provide timely medical services to patients.
