Karnataka Cong withdraws bandh call

Date:

Karnataka Congress has withdrawn the two-hour-long bandh called on Thursday due to second year Pre-University and other school and college exams across the state.

“The Congress has decided to withdraw the symbolic Karnataka bandh which was supposed to be held tomorrow, due to the pressure from students and parents in the wake of school and college examinations, including the second PUC examination,” Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar said in a statement.

The bandh was called as part of Congress party’s fight against alleged corruption by the ruling BJP.

“We decided to withdraw the bandh by respecting the feelings of the students and parents who expressed their concerns that it would cause inconvenience to them to attend exams,” Shivakumar said. He, however, emphasised on the continuation of their fight against BJP’s “corruption”.

The Congress had called for the bandh following recovery of Rs 8 crore plus cash from BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa’s son MV Prashanth Kumar, in an alleged bribery case.
