Agartala, 24th July 2026: Residents of Khoshbagan area near Surya Chowmuhani in Agartala apprehended three youths on Friday morning while they were allegedly attempting to steal copper wires from an air conditioner, following a recent rise in theft incidents in the locality.
According to locals, repeated thefts of AC copper wires from houses and commercial establishments had created panic in the area, prompting residents to keep a close watch on suspicious activities.
The three accused were caught red-handed while allegedly removing copper wiring from an AC unit at a house. The residents detained them and immediately informed the police.
A team from East Agartala Police Station reached the spot, took the three accused into custody, and also detained another suspect believed to be linked to the incident.
Police have launched an investigation to determine whether the accused are part of an organized theft racket and whether they were involved in previous theft cases reported in the area.
Meanwhile, local residents have demanded strict legal action against the accused and urged the police to increase regular patrolling in the locality to prevent such incidents in the future.
