Agartala, 24th July 2026: Tripura Police has constituted a senior-level investigation team to probe the death of Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar, with the Superintendent of Police (West) taking charge of the inquiry.
An official order issued from the Office of the Director General of Police stated that the investigation into West Agartala Police Station UD Case No. 2026WAG045 registered on July 20 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), has been assigned to the SP (West).
The investigation will be carried out with the assistance of Additional SP (Urban), West Tripura, Dhruba Nath, and Sub-Inspector Subhojit Deb, the present Investigating Officer of the case.

The order empowers the SP (West) to induct additional officers from the Tripura Police Crime Branch or any other police unit if required to ensure a comprehensive investigation. Technical assistance may also be sought from the Cyber Crime Unit of the Tripura Police Crime Branch whenever necessary.
To ensure close monitoring of the investigation, the SP (West) has been directed to submit weekly progress reports to the Inspector General of Police (Law & Order), Tripura, for onward submission to the Director General of Police.
The order marks the beginning of a structured and closely supervised investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the state’s top police officer, which has drawn widespread attention across Tripura.
