MLA Ratan Chakraborty  inaugurates paddy procurement programme; 124 farmers benefit in Old Agartala

Agartala, 31st July 2026 : MLA Ratan Chakraborty on Friday inaugurated the paddy procurement programme under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme at Old Agartala Block, highlighting the state government’s continued efforts to strengthen farmers’ welfare through assured procurement and better prices.

Addressing the programme, Chakraborty said the initiative, implemented by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs with support from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, was launched after the present government assumed office in 2018.

He stated that the procurement price, which initially stood at Rs 17.50 per kilogram, has been increased to Rs 23.69 per kilogram with the objective of improving the livelihood and economic well-being of farmers.

The MLA informed that a total of 162 metric tonnes of paddy was procured from 124 farmers under the Old Agartala Block during the programme. An amount of Rs 38,37,780 will be disbursed to the farmers for their produce, ensuring timely financial support through the MSP mechanism.

Chakraborty said the procurement programme reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding farmers’ interests by providing remunerative prices and a reliable marketing platform for their harvest.

The programme was attended by the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Old Agartala Block, the Mandal President, Vice-President and General Secretary, Panchayat Samiti members, and officials of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department.
