Agartala, 1st August 2026: A five-member delegation of the TSECL Contractors’ Association met State Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Saturday and raised the issue of long-pending payments amounting to around Rs 30 crore, following which the Minister assured them of steps to resolve the financial crisis.
The contractors had recently launched an indefinite work stoppage, suspending several power-related service activities across the state to press for clearance of their outstanding bills. The agitation was later withdrawn following an appeal from the Power Minister, with the contractors agreeing to discuss their demands with the government.
During Saturday’s meeting, the delegation placed the contractors’ grievances before the Minister and sought immediate release of the pending payments. Association Assistant Secretary Swapan Das said the Minister listened to their demands and assured them that payments would be released by August 15.
According to Das, the Minister also immediately contacted the Managing Director of the power department and directed him to take necessary steps for an early resolution of the issue.
The association said they had been informed that Rs 20 crore would be released initially. Das said the amount would help contractors manage their operations for the time being, while the remaining dues are expected to be cleared subsequently.
“There are around 150 contractors across Tripura, while only a small delegation of five or six representatives attended Saturday’s meeting,” Das said.
The representatives expressed satisfaction with the Minister’s response and thanked him for taking prompt action. They said timely clearance of the dues would enable contractors to resume and maintain power-related developmental and service works across the state without further disruption.
The association expressed hope that the government would adhere to the August 15 deadline and ensure smooth functioning of power-related works throughout Tripura.
