Anti-drug raid conducted near Prabhu Bari Pond after Chief Minister’s intervention

Date:

Agartala, 4th August 2026 :Acting swiftly on the strict instructions of Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, the East Agartala Police on Tuesday launched a special anti-drug operation in the area surrounding Prabhu Bari Pukur (Prabhu Bari Pond), targeting suspected drug trafficking activities.

The operation comes a day after the Chief Minister visited the pond to inspect its ongoing renovation work. During the inspection on Monday, Dr. Saha publicly acknowledged that illegal drug trade was taking place around the pond’s embankments and stated that he was already aware of the issue.

Expressing concern over the situation, the Chief Minister directed the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) to take immediate and stringent action against those involved in narcotics-related activities. He made it clear that no one engaged in the illegal trade would be spared and warned that any laxity on the part of the police would not be tolerated.

Following these directives, the East Agartala Police sprang into action on Tuesday. Led by Officer-in-Charge Krishnadhan Sarkar, the police conducted an extensive search operation in the areas surrounding Prabhu Bari Pukur, including searches of several nearby houses as part of the anti-drug drive.

Although the operation was carried out under tight security, the police have not disclosed any details regarding seizures, detentions, or arrests made during the drive. Officials remained tight-lipped about the outcome of the operation, stating only that the initiative was part of an ongoing effort to crack down on drug-related activities.

The operation is being viewed as a direct response to the Chief Minister’s call for stricter enforcement against the illegal drug trade and reflects the administration’s continued emphasis on combating narcotics in the state.
