Agartala, 6th August 2026: Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Thursday criticised the Tipra Motha-led Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), alleging that the council has failed to deliver on its promises and address the basic concerns of indigenous communities.
Speaking at a public programme, the veteran CPI(M) leader questioned the effectiveness of the autonomous council, claiming that despite Tipra Motha securing a majority in the TTAADC elections, there has been little visible progress in terms of development, employment generation and welfare initiatives.
Sarkar alleged that the council has remained largely inactive and that people in several tribal areas continue to struggle with unemployment, poverty and economic hardship. He claimed that many youths are being forced to leave the state in search of jobs due to a lack of opportunities at home.
Criticising the TTAADC administration, Sarkar questioned whether there was any authority taking responsibility for the difficulties faced by indigenous families. He alleged that the present leadership has failed to focus on the core issues affecting the tribal population.
The former Chief Minister also questioned the voters who supported Tipra Motha, asking them to evaluate whether the party had fulfilled the expectations placed on it. He accused the party of losing the confidence of indigenous people by not addressing their major concerns.
Sarkar further claimed that a section of indigenous youths had been influenced by political narratives but said people were now beginning to reassess the council’s performance. He stated that growing questions over the functioning of the TTAADC indicate a change in public sentiment.
The Tipra Motha Party had not responded to Sarkar’s allegations till the time of publication.
