Tripura moves towards app-based cab services at Airport, Railway Stations

Date:

Agartala, 7th August 2026 : Tripura government has begun steps to introduce app-based cab services at some of the state’s major transportation points, including Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, Badharghat Railway Station and Jogendranagar Railway Station.

Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury held discussions at the Secretariat with senior government officials, police authorities and representatives of transport organisations to examine the feasibility of launching the proposed service.

Officials present at the meeting included representatives of the Transport Department, IG (Law & Order), the West District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), as well as members of various transport bodies and other concerned organisations.

Chowdhury said the initiative is aimed at transforming Tripura’s public transport system into a more modern, technology-based and passenger-friendly network.

“Our objective is to build a safe, modern, transparent and technology-driven public transport system that makes commuting easier, quicker and more dependable for the people,” he said.

The minister emphasised that coordination among government departments, law enforcement agencies and transport stakeholders would be crucial for the successful implementation of the proposed service. He also welcomed suggestions from transport organisations and other stakeholders to ensure that the system is practical and beneficial for both passengers and service providers.

According to Chowdhury, the proposed app-based cab facility is part of the government’s wider efforts to modernise the state’s transport infrastructure, particularly at key entry and exit points.

He said the government would continue working with all stakeholders to make the initiative successful and strengthen transportation facilities in the larger public interest.

If introduced, the service is expected to offer passengers arriving at or departing from the airport and railway stations a more convenient, organised and reliable transportation option.
