Agartala, 7th August 2026 : A total of 266 children who have not yet received the Measles and Rubella (MR) vaccine will be covered under a special vaccination drive in Khowai district from August 10 to 25.
Khowai Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Padmaram Jamatia announced the programme at a press conference held at the CMO’s office on Friday. He said the drive will cover children aged between nine months and 10 years, with 125 children scheduled to receive the first dose (MR-1) and 141 children the second dose (MR-2).
According to the CMO, children aged between five and 10 years will be vaccinated at primary schools from August 10 to 17. From August 18 to 25, children aged nine months to five years will be administered the vaccines at health sub-centres and Anganwadi centres.
Dr. Jamatia also highlighted the ongoing HPV vaccination programme in the district for girls aged 14 to below 15 years. The campaign began at the district hospital’s MCH clinics on February 28, 2024, and was expanded to health sub-centres and schools from July 7.
The district has set a target of vaccinating 2,400 eligible girls by August 31. So far, 209 girls have received the HPV vaccine. The remaining beneficiaries will be covered through health sub-centres, hospital MCH clinics and schools before the deadline.
District Immunization Officer Dr. Bikram Debbarma and other officials were present at the press conference.
