Lawyer suspended for 15 days over alleged indecent messages to woman intern

Date:

Agartala, 11th August 2026:  A lawyer in Kailashahar has reportedly been suspended for 15 days by the Unakoti District Bar Association following allegations that he sent indecent messages to a young woman who was undergoing an internship in the town.

According to sources, the lawyer had obtained the mobile number of one of four female interns, reportedly for providing legal guidance and assistance. However, the young woman later alleged that he began sending objectionable messages to her mobile phone.

Following the incident, she reportedly submitted a complaint to the President and Secretary of the Unakoti District Bar Association last Friday. An internal meeting of the association was subsequently held, during which the matter was discussed. Sources said the lawyer was suspended for 15 days, with the suspension taking effect from Monday.

The allegations have sparked concern among sections of the public and the legal fraternity, particularly over the safety and dignity of women working or interning in professional environments.

However, the Bar Association has not yet issued an official statement to the media. The lawyer’s response, the specific findings of the association and the grounds for the suspension have also not been publicly disclosed.

Questions are now being raised over whether further action will be taken after the allegations are examined in detail.
