Agartala, 12th August 2026: Students, along with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), staged a road blockade in front of Mahatma Gandhi School in Agartala, demanding action against a teacher accused of inappropriate behaviour towards a female student.
The protesters alleged that the teacher had repeatedly cast lewd looks at a female student, touched her inappropriately and, on another occasion, attacked students with a chair. The students demanded an immediate inquiry and appropriate action against the accused teacher.
During the protest, students engaged in a heated exchange with police officials, insisting that the District Magistrate visit the spot and hear their grievances. They said the blockade would be withdrawn once the DM arrived.
The protesters also questioned how female students and teachers could feel safe in the school if such allegations were not addressed. They strongly condemned remarks allegedly made against the protesting students and called for accountability from government employees.
Police, meanwhile, urged the protesters to clear the road, citing the movement of patients, emergency vehicles and other traffic. The students maintained that emergency vehicles were being allowed to pass and reiterated their demand for the district administration to intervene.
The protest continued as students pressed for a fair investigation and action over the allegations.
