Road block protest at Dharmanagar over attack on YC workers

Date:

Agartala, 12th August 2026: Congress workers and supporters on Wednesday staged a road blockade at Jurkalpat along the Dharmanagar–Panisagar highway, protesting the alleged delay in arresting those accused in the July 25 attack on Youth Congress activists.

The demonstration was organized by the Rajnagar Block Congress and led by party leaders Digvijay Chakraborty and Kebel Kanti Nandi, with Women’s Congress leader Mansi Malakar also present. Protesters claimed that despite a case being filed after the incident, no arrests had been made, sparking anger among grassroots workers. They demanded immediate arrests and legal action against the accused.

Traffic movement on the busy highway was disrupted for some time due to the blockade. A large police contingent, led by Dharmanagar police officer Dulal Chandra Das, arrived at the spot and engaged in talks with the protesters. Following discussions, the blockade was withdrawn, and normalcy was restored.

Speaking to reporters, Congress leader Digvijay Chakraborty warned that if arrests were not made soon, the party would launch a larger agitation in the coming days. The incident created temporary tension in the Jurkalpat area, but police intervention brought the situation under control.
