Agartala, 12th August 2026: Due to prolonged negligence by the administration and indifference of local representatives, residents of Dhanpur constituency continue to risk their lives while crossing the Tel Kajla Hanging Bridge, which connects Tel Kajla and Baniachhara areas. The bridge has remained in a severely damaged state for years, with broken sections posing the threat of a major accident at any moment.
Despite repeated appeals, locals allege that neither the Mohanbhog block administration nor the concerned authorities have taken effective steps to repair the structure. Their fears turned into reality when Abdul Barek, a 60-year-old resident, met with a serious accident while crossing the bridge barefoot. His foot got trapped in a gap, causing severe injuries and heavy bleeding. He collapsed in pain and lost consciousness.
Witnesses rushed to his aid, rescuing him in a bloodied state and carrying him to a nearby shop. After pouring water over his head, they managed to revive him. The incident has sparked fresh outrage among residents, who accuse the authorities of ignoring repeated warnings about the bridge’s dangerous condition.
Locals fear that if immediate repairs are not undertaken, children and other pedestrians could face similar or worse accidents. They have demanded urgent restoration of the damaged sections to ensure safe passage for the public.
