MP Kriti Singh Debbarma seeks boost for Tripura’s agarwood sector at Lok Sabha

Agartala, 13th August 2026 :  Tripura Lok Sabha MP Kriti Singh Debbarma has raised the issue of promoting the state’s cultivated agarwood sector in Parliament, seeking simpler procedures for its transit, certification and export.

Debbarma highlighted agarwood’s potential to generate rural employment, expand exports and support sustainable economic growth in Tripura and the Northeast. She also sought greater assistance for scientific cultivation, inoculation, value addition and market access for growers.

In response, the Union Environment Ministry said an annual export quota of 22,500 kg of agarwood chips/powder/sawdust and 1,047 kg of agarwood oil has been notified for Tripura for 2024-25 to 2026-27.

The Ministry also said steps are being taken to streamline certification and export processes through a digital system, while technical support is being provided for scientific inoculation and sustainable cultivation.

Debbarma said she would continue raising issues aimed at creating new opportunities and strengthening sustainable development in Tripura and the Northeast.
