Agartala, 14th August 2026 : Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma has voiced strong opposition to the Tripura Cabinet’s decision to do away with the Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate (PRTC) requirement for government recruitment, warning that the move could affect employment opportunities for local youths.
Reacting to Minister Sushanta Chowdhury’s recent press conference, Debbarma said the Cabinet had decided that applicants would no longer need to produce a PRTC to apply for government jobs in the state. He questioned the rationale behind the decision and argued that the certificate had played an important role in ensuring that government employment remained accessible to genuine residents of Tripura.
Debbarma also raised concerns over the possibility of applicants from outside the state, including people from Bangladesh, attempting to secure jobs through forged documents. He said the removal of the requirement could make verification more difficult and potentially create additional challenges for educated unemployed youths of Tripura.
“I strongly oppose this decision and protest against it,” Debbarma said.
Taking a swipe at the Tipra Motha ministers in the Cabinet, he questioned why the ministers appeared to be smiling while taking what he described as a serious decision affecting the interests of Tiprasa people.
The MLA appealed to residents across Tripura to oppose the Cabinet decision and called for public protests. He maintained that safeguards must remain in place to protect employment opportunities for the state’s genuine residents.
The statement has added another political dimension to the ongoing debate over government recruitment rules and the protection of employment opportunities for local candidates in Tripura.
