Agartala, 16th August 2026 : A group of miscreants allegedly attacked the residence of Mrinal Sen at Kalachhara under Sabroom subdivision on Saturday night, reportedly in an attempt to take possession of the house.
According to the complaint, the incident took place at around 8 pm when the attackers allegedly broke open the main gate, entered the house and assaulted Mrinal Sen and his wife.
At the time of the incident, their daughter, Dr Parmita Sen, was outside the state. After learning about the attack, she went live on social media and appealed to Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha for the safety and assistance of her family.
Parmita Sen and her parents have alleged that the incident was carried out by Biswajit Debnath and Apu Debnath, residents of a neighbouring house. They alleged that the accused brought along some local and outsider miscreants and entered the house after breaking the gate, with the intention of taking possession of the property.
Although the family members managed to escape serious harm, they have expressed concern over their security. Parmita questioned who would take responsibility if her father or brother were attacked in the future. She also said that she and her sister live outside the state and alleged that local miscreants took advantage of their absence.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said that the incident had come to his notice. Speaking to the media at an event, he said the video clips related to the incident had been forwarded to the police administration and a detailed report had been sought.
The Chief Minister assured that if the allegations are found to be true, those responsible would face legal action.
Meanwhile, a delegation led by former MLA Prabhat Chowdhury visited the residence of Mrinal Sen on Sunday morning and spoke to the family members about the incident.
No arrest had been reported till the time of filing this report.
