Tribal Welfare Department observes birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Bahadur

Date:

Agartala, 19th  August 2026 : Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Tripura, observed the birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Bahadur for the first time through a special programme organised at Pragya Bhavan, Agartala. Hon’ble Tribal Welfare Minister Shri Bikash Debbarma attended the programme as the Chief Guest and formally inaugurated the event.

The occasion brought together several educational and welfare initiatives of the department for tribal students. One of the major highlights was the distribution of printed study materials under the Smart Class Project, which is being run by the Tribal Welfare Department and implemented by the Institute for Career Advancement (ICA).

Under this initiative, chapter-wise solved printed study notes are made available to tribal students residing in all 100 government ST hostels covered by the project. The notes cover Classes VI to XII, for both Bengali and English mediums. The printed notes are intended to supplement the technology-enabled teaching available through the Smart Class Project and help students address learning gaps. This initiative benefits thousands of tribal students under the project.

Merit awards were presented to meritorious students of ST boarding houses on the basis of records available through the BMS application. Awards were also presented to sub-divisional toppers and state-level Madhyamik toppers. The programme also witnessed the launch of the Super 100 Scheme, an initiative for providing coaching support to tribal students of Tripura.

Recognition was extended not only to individual students but also to hostels demonstrating good institutional practices. Awards were distributed under the “Clean Hostel, Green Hostel” initiative to encourage cleanliness, environmental responsibility and better living conditions in government ST hostels.

Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Tribal Welfare Minister Shri Bikash Debbarma highlighted the achievements of the department and the different initiatives being undertaken for the educational advancement and overall welfare of tribal students. He thanked the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha for supporting the developmental Initiatives for the tribal community of Tripura.

Secretary of the Tribal Welfare Department, Dr. K. Sasikumar, lauded the achievements of individual students and hostels under the department’s different schemes and award categories.

Director of the Tribal Welfare Department, Shri Subhashish Das, spoke about his department’s recent achievements and future initiatives being considered by the department for strengthening the educational support and welfare facilities available to Scheduled Tribe students across the state.

The Institute for Career Advancement, the implementing agency of the Smart Class Project, has completed approximately 50 government- and PSU-funded projects and has worked with more than 10 government organisations and public sector undertakings over the past decade or so. Being a Tripura government-recognised Start-Up, ICA is also associated with training, technology-enabled education, career guidance, mental health, coaching, skill development, manpower services and software development, etc. It serves as an industry-cum-implementation partner of a recognised Sector Skill Council. The organisation has an impeccable coaching success record and in the last govt. funded coaching assignment, it produced a very high number of successful students, a record in itself.
