Agartala, 20th August 2026 : Another theft has been reported on Chittaranjan Road in Agartala, with a marble shop allegedly targeted by thieves and suffering losses of more than ₹1 lakh. The latest incident has triggered fresh concern among traders and residents over the security situation in the busy commercial locality.
According to reports, the thieves targeted the marble shop and fled with valuables estimated to be worth over Rs 1 lakh. The incident has raised alarm among local business owners, particularly as it comes barely a week after another theft was reported in the same area.
In the earlier incident, a gang of thieves allegedly broke into a shop on Chittaranjan Road and decamped with cash and gold ornaments. The recurrence of thefts within a short span has intensified concerns over the safety of commercial establishments in the locality.
Traders have expressed resentment over the repeated incidents, pointing out that the Maharajganj Bazar Police Outpost and East Agartala Police Station are located in close proximity to the area. Questions are consequently being raised over night-time patrolling and the effectiveness of security arrangements in and around Chittaranjan Road.
The latest incident has also prompted demands from sections of the business community for increased police patrols, stricter surveillance and prompt action against those involved in the thefts.
Police are expected to investigate the latest incident and examine available evidence, including CCTV footage, to identify and apprehend the culprits. The repeated incidents have meanwhile heightened anxiety among traders operating in one of Agartala’s busy commercial areas.
