Tripura Sets Target to Create 3.50 Lakh Lakhpati Didis by FY 2028-29

Date:

Agartala, 21st August 2026: The Tripura government has drawn up an ambitious plan to empower 3.50 lakh women as Lakhpati Didis by the financial year 2028-29, with a strong focus on improving rural livelihoods and raising household incomes through convergence of government schemes.

The roadmap was discussed during the quarterly State Level Lakhpati Didi Steering Committee meeting held on Friday under the chairmanship of Abhishek Singh, Secretary of the Rural Development Department.

The meeting was attended by TRLM CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma, senior officials of the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) and representatives from various line departments.

Officials reviewed the progress achieved under the Lakhpati Didi initiative and examined measures to expand its reach and improve its implementation across the state. Discussions centred on strengthening livelihood opportunities for women associated with rural self-help groups and ensuring better coordination among departments.

The Rural Development Department also presented the future action plan up to FY 2028-29, highlighting the importance of effective convergence between different government schemes and programmes. Such coordination is expected to provide women with greater access to livelihood support, financial assistance, skill development and income-generating opportunities.

The committee further discussed ways to enhance and augment the initiative so that more women can develop sustainable sources of income and improve their economic well-being.

The Lakhpati Didi initiative seeks to help women from rural self-help groups achieve an annual household income of at least Rs 1 lakh through diversified livelihood activities and coordinated government interventions. Tripura’s latest roadmap aims to significantly scale up these efforts and create a larger base of economically empowered rural women by 2028-29.
