Agartala, 26th August 2026: Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Wednesday urged Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu to examine the prolonged delay in approving bills passed by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), claiming that around 18 bills have remained pending for years.
Pradyot, accompanied by TTAADC Chief Executive Member Runiel Debbarma, met the Governor and discussed the issue. He said the elected council has passed several bills aimed at protecting the rights and welfare of indigenous people, covering land rights, administrative reforms, recruitment policy and customary laws.
However, he said the bills cannot take effect as laws without the required approval of the Governor.
According to Pradyot, the matter has been repeatedly raised with the authorities, while a written representation was also submitted seeking intervention to determine why the bills have remained pending for such a long period.
He said the delay has created difficulties for elected representatives, as people question them about the implementation of measures promised for their welfare.
Pradyot also claimed that the issue has been raised before the Supreme Court and said nearly 18 bills dating back to around 2007 remain pending at different stages.
He expressed hope that the constitutional spirit of the Sixth Schedule would be upheld.
