Agartala, 29th August 2026: Tension prevailed near Town Hall on Saturday after police detained several TET-qualified job seekers who had gathered to press for immediate recruitment.
The candidates had planned to march towards the Chief Minister’s residence and stage a demonstration demanding an early recruitment process for eligible TET-qualified candidates. However, police intervened before the programme could begin and took the protesters into custody.
The job seekers said they had been waiting for appointments for a considerable period despite meeting the required qualifications. According to them, repeated assurances from the authorities have failed to bring about a concrete solution to the recruitment issue.
The candidates said they were compelled to organise the protest as their long-pending demand remained unresolved. They maintained that their intention was to peacefully draw the government’s attention to their plight rather than create any law-and-order problem.
Police detained the candidates from the Town Hall area and removed them from the spot, leading to resentment among the protesters. The development also caused tension in the surrounding area for some time.
The TET-qualified job seekers reiterated that the government should initiate recruitment at the earliest and provide eligible candidates with employment opportunities based on their qualifications.
The candidates are now awaiting a response from the government and indicated that they may continue their agitation if their demand for recruitment is not addressed.
