Agartala, 29th August 2026: The state conference of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) will be held at Agartala Town Hall from September 1 to 3, with a public rally scheduled at Astabal on September 1.
Announcing the programme at a press conference at Krishak Bhavan on Saturday, AIKS state president Aghore Debbarma, secretary Pabitra Kar and assistant secretary Ratan Das said preparations for the three-day conference were underway.
The conference will discuss the challenges facing agriculture in Tripura, the prevailing situation in the country and various political issues concerning farmers. The leaders said deliberations would also focus on strengthening the organisation and formulating strategies to intensify movements on farmers’ issues and demands.
Criticising the BJP-led government at the Centre, the AIKS leaders alleged that despite several promises made to farmers after Narendra Modi assumed office in 2014, many of their problems remain unresolved. They stressed the need for effective measures to improve the economic condition of farmers and prevent farmer suicides.
The leaders also highlighted the importance of agriculture and allied sectors in the country’s economic development. They said rising production of fish, milk, dairy products and other agricultural commodities, along with the growth of agro-based industries, could improve farmers’ incomes and generate employment.
The conference is expected to chalk out future programmes aimed at strengthening the farmers’ movement and securing greater support, income and employment opportunities for the farming community in Tripura and across the country.
