Agartala, 31st August 2026: A dispute over the listing of questions triggered fresh tension in the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Monday, with Tipra Motha Party (TMP) MLAs alleging that their questions were repeatedly pushed to the end despite being submitted earlier.
The issue surfaced on the third and final day of the Assembly session when TMP MLA Ranjit Debbarma questioned the manner in which questions submitted by the party were being listed. He claimed that the party’s legislators had been unable to raise several issues of public importance during the three-day session.
According to Debbarma, the TMP had submitted its questions before other members, but the queries were placed towards the end of the list, leaving the party’s MLAs with little or no opportunity to raise them on the floor of the House.
“Discrimination is being done with us. If such things continue, we will leave the House. However, we have faith in the Speaker. We are public representatives and are here to raise the issues of the people, but we are unable to do so. The matter must be investigated,” Debbarma said.
He urged the Speaker to verify the records of question submissions and determine why the party’s questions were repeatedly placed at the bottom of the list.
“You check the records. We submitted our questions before everyone else. Yet, our questions have been placed at the end for the past three days. Why were they kept last despite being submitted first? We want an investigation into the matter,” he said.
TMP MLAs Biswajit Kalai and Sanjoy Manik Tripura also objected to the sequence in which the questions were listed. They claimed that when they submitted their questions, no other members had submitted theirs and argued that their queries should therefore have received priority.
The MLAs further alleged that there could have been a deliberate attempt to prevent them from raising the issues they had submitted and called for a fresh investigation into the matter.
The issue was subsequently brought to the attention of Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath. Following his assurance, Speaker Rampada Jamatia agreed to look into the matter and conduct an inquiry into the placement of the questions.
The Speaker’s assurance brought the issue to a close, with the TMP legislators reiterating their demand for a transparent examination of the records to determine how the questions were listed.
