Agartala, 31st August 2026 : The Tripura Electronic Rickshaw Workers’ Union, affiliated with the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), on Monday submitted a seven-point memorandum to the administration, seeking solutions to various problems faced by e-rickshaw and auto-rickshaw workers across the state.
Union representatives also met Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Kishore Debbarma and submitted a deputation. The union said thousands of transport workers are facing difficulties over permits, fines, fare structures and rising operational costs.
Among its key demands, the union sought clarity under the Motor Vehicles Act on e-rickshaws operating without permits and speedy disposal of unnecessary traffic cases and fines through Lok Adalats. It also demanded an end to fines based solely on photographs taken by traffic police.
The union called for removal of garbage bins placed in the middle of roads at Battala, repair of non-functional traffic signals and repainting of zebra crossings. It further alleged harassment and arbitrary fines against auto drivers at various naka points and demanded that enforcement be carried out strictly according to law.
The union also urged the administration to allow heavy vehicles of 6, 10, 12 and 16 wheels to operate from 10 PM to dawn as per earlier regulations to reduce daytime congestion.
The organisation warned of a larger movement if the issues are not addressed promptly and urged the administration to take immediate action on its demands.
