Agartala, 31st August 2026 : Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Monday described the upcoming Village Committee (VC) elections in Tripura as an important political contest that could set the tone for the 2028 Assembly elections.
Speaking to supporters during a Facebook Live, Pradyot urged party leaders to nominate honest, capable and committed candidates, while cautioning them against giving tickets to corrupt persons or selecting candidates solely because they are relatives, friends or politically influential.
“My warriors, get ready and prepare to fight this election. Leaders are requested not to choose corrupt people, relatives or friends. Choose those who can bring real change to the villages,” he said.
Pradyot said the announcement of the VC polls was a significant achievement following a prolonged legal and political struggle. He noted that indigenous people would finally get an opportunity to exercise their voting and constitutional rights at the grassroots level after nearly a decade.
He announced that Tipra Motha would begin its election-related process from September 1 and appealed to educated and honest people to participate actively in grassroots politics.
According to Pradyot, elected Village Committee representatives would help ensure that development funds reach villages directly instead of remaining under the influence of individual MLAs, MDCs or other political leaders.
“This is an election of the people and your voice is essential,” he said, urging residents to come forward and work for the development of their villages.
Pradyot also reiterated that securing constitutional rights for his people remained his priority and said he would not enter into an alliance until those rights were ensured.
He further claimed that the VC election outcome could carry broader political significance, saying, “If we fight this election and contest it in a good way, it will be a signal for the 2028 Assembly election.”
