Agartala, 3rd September 2026 : Police have scored a major success in their campaign against the illegal drug trade with the seizure of around 80,000 Yaba tablets from a stone-carrying lorry in Jolaibari. Three persons were detained during the operation, while the market value of the seized narcotics has been estimated at approximately ₹3 crore.
The action followed a tip-off received by the authorities about the suspected movement of a large consignment of narcotics through the area. Acting on the information, a coordinated team comprising personnel from MCB police, Baikhora Police Station and the Jolaibari Police Outpost launched an operation.
During the operation, officials stopped and searched a stone-laden lorry bearing registration number TR05H1813. The search led to the recovery of a huge quantity of Yaba tablets, raising serious questions about the use of the vehicle for transporting illegal drugs.
Three individuals were detained from the spot and are being questioned as part of the investigation. Police are now attempting to establish the origin of the consignment, its intended destination and the possible involvement of other members of a wider narcotics trafficking network.
The seizure has generated considerable attention in Jolaibari, particularly because of the sheer volume of tablets recovered in a single operation.
Later, SDPO Bapi Debbarma and Baikhora Police Station OC Aruna Das addressed the media and provided details of the operation. The SDPO reiterated that enforcement agencies would continue their intensified campaign against narcotics and take stringent action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.
The investigation remains underway, with police expected to pursue further leads based on the information obtained from the detained individuals.
