Agartala, 3rd September 2026 : A special discussion meeting aimed at strengthening efforts to create a drug-free, healthy and secure society was held at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala on Thursday.
The meeting focused on several key issues related to the growing threat of substance abuse, particularly among the younger generation. Participants discussed measures to prevent youth from falling victim to drug addiction, strengthen action against the illegal use and trafficking of narcotic substances, and expand awareness campaigns across the state.
Officials from different levels of the administration and other stakeholders took part in the discussions and exchanged views on strategies to combat substance abuse effectively. The meeting stressed the importance of educating young people about the serious physical, social and economic consequences of drug addiction.
Speakers also highlighted the crucial role of families, educational institutions, communities and government agencies in preventing substance abuse. It was emphasised that sustained public awareness, early intervention and strict enforcement against drug-related activities must go hand in hand.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, ADM Rakesh Debbarma outlined various initiatives undertaken by the administration and its proposed plans to intensify the campaign against drugs. He stressed the need to further strengthen social awareness and called for greater cooperation among all sections of society.
Debbarma pointed out that administrative action alone would not be sufficient to achieve a drug-free society. Collective efforts by families, communities, educational institutions and the administration are essential to protect the state’s youth from substance abuse.
The initiative seeks to build a healthier and safer Tripura through sustained awareness programmes, community participation and effective action against the illicit use and trade of narcotic substances.
