Agartala, 5th September 2026 : A theft at a residence in Dhaleshwar has raised fresh concerns over night-time security and police patrolling in residential areas, after thieves allegedly entered a house while a husband and wife were asleep and fled with cash and a mobile phone.
The incident reportedly took place at House No. 12, Ram Bhavan, near Gorakshanath Temple. According to the residents, the couple discovered the theft after waking up when they noticed that a mobile phone was missing. They subsequently found a bag that had been kept inside a wardrobe lying on the floor.
The woman said cash withdrawn just a day earlier had been taken from the bag. The thieves also reportedly searched for valuables and removed a gold ring from the wardrobe, but left it on a sofa, apparently mistaking it for imitation jewellery. Other gold ornaments were safe as they had been kept elsewhere.
The incident has left the family deeply shaken. The residents alleged that there has been inadequate night patrolling in the interior lanes of Dhaleshwar and nearby Ramnagar, despite police presence on major roads and around the Chandrapur and Achuntala Temple areas.
They also pointed to the absence of CCTV cameras in the locality and expressed concern over alleged substance abuse and rising theft-related incidents.
The residents urged police to intensify night patrols, increase surveillance and install CCTV cameras in vulnerable residential pockets to prevent further incidents and restore a sense of security among locals.
