Agartala, 8th September 2026 : Former Tripura Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar on Tuesday criticised the performance of the state government, describing it as “minus zero”, while launching a scathing attack on the BJP-led government and Tipra Motha.
Sarkar alleged that despite “big speeches” and the spending of crores of rupees from public funds on advertisements, the government’s publicity bears little resemblance to the actual conditions faced by ordinary people. He claimed there was a wide gap between the government’s claims of development and people’s ground-level experiences.
Targeting Tipra Motha over the functioning of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), Sarkar alleged that the party had failed to effectively administer the ADC from the very beginning. Although Tipra Motha won 24 seats in the recent election, it has still not been able to fully constitute its executive committee, he claimed.
Sarkar also criticised the internal differences within Tipra Motha, saying that the political equation within the party would become increasingly fragile with time. He further claimed that dissatisfaction was growing among grassroots supporters of both the BJP and Tipra Motha.
The former Chief Minister also criticised the reported understanding between the BJP and Tipra Motha ahead of the ADC elections. Left leaders alleged that although the two parties had been political rivals in earlier ADC elections, efforts were now underway to restore their political understanding, with the involvement of the BJP’s central leadership.
Sarkar said the people of Tripura were closely observing the developments and were “not so foolish” as to be misled by political claims. He also criticised attempts by leaders of different political parties to coordinate in what he described as the pursuit of political and economic interests.
Referring to the past performance of the Left Front-led ADC, Sarkar claimed that despite having limited powers, the administration had set examples of working for the welfare of the people.
Left leaders alleged that the Tipra Motha-led ADC administration had also failed to meet people’s expectations over the past five years. They appealed to voters to support the Left in the upcoming ADC elections, citing their previous record in the council.
Sarkar urged people to support the Left for improvements in education, healthcare, roads, agriculture and farmers’ interests, as well as for strengthening the democratic rights of indigenous communities.
The Left leadership appealed to voters to come forward in support of the party in the forthcoming ADC elections, citing priorities such as food security, educational opportunities for children, better healthcare, improved roads, protection of farmers and agriculture, and restoration of the democratic rights of tribal communities.
